In 2001, Bayer broke ground for the construction of world-scale production facilities at its integrated site, located at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. In September 2006, a formal inauguration ceremony was held for the Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai (BISS) facility. Located on a 1.5 km2 site, BISS is a world-class, world-scale production site designed to serve Bayer’s growing customer base in China as well as customers throughout the Asia Pacific region. The project represents a total capital expenditure volume of about 1.8 billion EUR through to 2012 and thus is Bayer’s biggest-ever project outside of Germany.
